I have just recently begun eating better in some ways. I like to have salad and broccoli with extra virgin olive oil. I have noticed that my throat burns slightly when the oil goes down. Is this normal? Why does this happen? Is it normal for olive oil to slightly burn one's throat?
I have never heard of olive oil doing that but everyone is different so it might be possible especially if it happens every time you eat olive oil.Try to notice that and then you will know.Is it normal for olive oil to slightly burn one's throat?
/No, not normal. Olive oil is soothing, if anything. There should be nothing in it that would burn your throat. Is it just plain old 100% olive oil that you are using? I know there are some out there that have added ingredients in them to be used for various purposes or with various foods. Maybe they can have spices or other irritating things in them. Perhaps you can try a different brand and see if it still burns.
Also, are you sure it's the olive oil that burns your throat? An easy way to find out is to take a small spoon and put some olive oil in it and then swallow it. See if it burns all by itself. It's possible that you're putting something on the broccoli or in your salad that irritates your throat -- like pepper or other spices?
No, but i am guessing you are making a vinaigrette, using lemon maybe, which is probably what is causing the burn. just a thought.
well extra-virgin olive oil contains now more then 0.8% acidity. this is less than that of other olive oils. perhaps your throat is rather sensitive. stay away from vinegars.
