my furnace appearsd to be burning too much oil. tested it with around 40 gallons of oil since friday night and it is quiet empty now? do i need to adjust something on the burner(beckett) for a slower flow? How much oil does a furnace burn on average?
The burner nozzle is rated for gallons-per-hour. My 100,000 b.t.u. furnace has a .90 g.p.h. nozzle. You could probably figure out pretty near to what yours is rated at by finding the b.t.u. rating on your furnace's nameplate. Within certain limitations nozzles can be replaced with different flow rates to change the burner firing rate. The nozzle ought to be changed annually along with the oil filter and adjusting of the electrodes. Hope this helps.
