Why does my 2000 fiat brava 1.2 sx petrol burn oil had head gasket done and timing belt changed 65k miles?

oil and water not mixing and car never over heats sometimes white smoke comes out of exhaust i think i think it may be the seals how much would this cost to fixWhy does my 2000 fiat brava 1.2 sx petrol burn oil had head gasket done and timing belt changed 65k miles?
Try a thicker grade of oil (higher viscosity). The piston rings are probably worn %26amp; this happened when the engine overheated %26amp; knackered the head. Why does my 2000 fiat brava 1.2 sx petrol burn oil had head gasket done and timing belt changed 65k miles?
White smoke is normal until the engine warms up.

If it`s burning oil,you should see blue smoke from the exhaust.

If you get blue smoke when you start up first thing in the morning,or pulling away from lights after a wait,it`s most likely the valve stem oil seals

Otherwise it`s the piston rings.

If there is no smoke, check for leaks.

It`s difficult to give a price, some car`s valve stem oil seals can be replaced without removing the cylinder head, but most not.

If it`s the rings, the head and sump will have to come off,and maybe the engine will have to be removed to remove the sump.
You say white smoke is coming out of the exhaust?? If your engine was burning oil, it would be emitting blue smoke.

White smoke tends to mean water is entering the exhaust system.

If it is burning oil, it could be from, as already mentioned, the piston rings. Or it could be the valve stem oil seals...which requires quite a lot of labour.
what engine oil are u ,using . it sounds like piston rings ,some how oil is passing through

they could be worn. or wrong oil been used

Oil burn tell me what to do pls?

ok so i was cooking like half an hour ago and i dropped a drop of very hot oil on my toe someone tell me what to do pls. and bdw it came like a bubble filled with water and i blew it.Oil burn tell me what to do pls?
God I hope you didn't listen to the moron who said to put egg whites on it. Man, people are stupid.

Burn care is very simple. Cold running water for at least 15 minutes. Period. NO ICE. Your aim is to stop the burning without cutting circulation. Ice cools the area too rapidly and impedes circulation. Do NOT pop blisters. It's your body's natural bandaid. If you do, keep it as clean as possible - have a clean, dry dressing on it - the only thing you might want to put on it is Neosporin but not right after the burn. Never put anything oil-based on a fresh burn. Actually, never put ANYTHING but water and fresh bandages on a new burn. No egg whites, aloe, butter, ointment, olive oil or any of that other old wives tale bullhockey.

Keep it as clean as you can and it should be OK after a couple of days.

Good luck!Oil burn tell me what to do pls?
you have a second degree burn DO NOT POP THE BLISTER, it is protecting you against getting an infection in the wound.

Keep it in cold water till it stops hurting, you can repeat that if it starts hurting again, but not more than 10 minutes at a time.

Then just protect the blister, and it should have healed between 7-10 days.
Been there, done that. I feel for you. I just kept it cool. I used cold water or washcloth soaked in cold water. I didn't use ice because I remember hearing that ice can actually be bad for burns - like it's too cold, too much of a shock. So, I would check that before icing it.

Mine blistered - I think I had two on one foot, and one on the other. I had to wear maryjanes for a while because they were the only shoes that didn't hit the blisters. They took a bit to heal. Once the blisters went down I was left with dark purple marks that eventually faded. I still have light discoloration, and it's been 2 1/2 - 3 years.

If you think it's really bad, you could go to a doctor. I never did (maybe I should have, don't know), but they healed, and nothing ever went wrong.
Breaking the blister puts you at risk for infection. Put some neosporin on it and cover it. Keep it clean and covered until it develops a scab.

Next time: cold water for 15 mins, don't pick.
get egg whites and put on the burned area or alo vera !!! ice it keep it cool the effected area or if its real bad head out to urgent care good luck

Whats a make-up remover that i can buy in shoppers that doesnt have any oil and preferable wont burn?

I have some extra Olive Oil can I add it to my number 2 fuel to burn?5gal to 275gal oil?

I have some extra Olive Oil but instead of storing till I need to put on salades can I mix it with my number 2 fuel oil to burn?I have some extra Olive Oil can I add it to my number 2 fuel to burn?5gal to 275gal oil?
Yes. That's such a small percentage, it won't be a problem. Just don't put it in your car.I have some extra Olive Oil can I add it to my number 2 fuel to burn?5gal to 275gal oil?
At $8+/quart I'd find something better to do with it. Sell it to a neighbor for 8/gallon and get 4 gallons of #2 oil.
sorry I have no idea. but you better find out other wise you could end up breaking your car.
No, it has a very low flash point and leaves a nasty residue

I cut jalapenos today for salsa, now my hand is on fire!!! How do I stop the acid from burning me?? I've tried washing, baking soda, epsom salts, milk soak, lidocaine sunburn relief gel, lanacane spray, NOTHING WORKS!!!!! I even did what webmd said and tried to soak in vegetable oil, only made it worse. Cant find pres nurse advice line # and I'm not desperate enough to go ER yet. any WORKING solutions to neutralize it please? ice water feels great, but pain returns as soon as I take it out.Jalapeno oil burn help please???
That sucks! That happened to me the first time I made Salsa. There isn't a whole lot you can do. You pretty much named all of the common cures for it. What worked best for me was soaking it in milk. Throw some ice in there to diminish the pain a little. The best thing to do (next time) is not to touch the membrane (vein with all the seeds on it) Nor the seeds. If worst comes to worst use disposable latex gloves. I'm sorry you're going through this. I know how painful it is. Take a fever reducer to see if that helps...like ibuprofen. Good Luck!

P.S don't touch your eyes. Even after you wash your hands, your eyes will burn if you touch them.Jalapeno oil burn help please???
It's so funny, because thats exactly what I did! I slept with my hand in a bowl of ice water. Otherwise I wouldn't have fallen asleep! It was so painful! It should be going away soon. Report Abuse

try going to a dollar store and buy some disposable gloves that would end all your problems
Okay, try this, take cream, sour cream whatever you have that's a thick milk product, mix with a little olive oil and put it on your hands like lotion. Wait a few minutes, rinse with cold water and repeat a couple of times. I know it's time consuming, but it works. Usually, I bite the bullet and wash the hell out of my hands with soap and warm water then rub milk and olive oil on them, but the scrubbing really hurts.
try bread, it helps in your mouth
milk is the thing that i used when this happens to me

definitely dont touch any other parts of your body with that hand

Is it safe to burn desiel fuel in an oil furnace? My mom wants to know she is out of oil but she has desiel?

Home heating oil and #2 Diesel are about the same. I used to work blending fuels at an oil refinery. #2 Diesel has a cetane specification on it, and Home Heating Oil does not, so #2 Diesel is actually a more valued grade of fuel than Home Heating Oil.

#1 diesel should not hurt your furnace but it will be more expensive. It's lubricating properties are lower than a #2. Unless your pump bearings are lubricated by the oil this should not be a concern.

#1 diesel is also more expensive than #2 diesel, and is lighter and less dense, so therefore does not have the energy that #2 diesel has. You will use more for the same heat amount.

#1 diesel, K-1, and jet fuel for commercial aircraft are pretty similar materials but K-1 has more stringent specifications because of it's use in oil heaters and oil lamps so. (Not oil furnaces) This more stringent spec assures that it will burn cleaner in those indoor services without forming as much Carbon Monoxide.

#1 %26amp; #2 ';Fuel Oils'; are not flammable materials like gasoline, acetone, ethanol etc. They are termed combustible materials. Usually you can hold a match to them and not light them on fire. You need to wick them to get them to burn.

As a result they are reasonable safe fuels if stored at room temperature. If you heat them above their ';flash points,'; which will be above 100'F and varies from batch to batch, refiner to refiner, then you can ignite them with a match. Is it safe to burn desiel fuel in an oil furnace? My mom wants to know she is out of oil but she has desiel?
It is safe. #1 diesel fuel is the same as home heating oil. Make sure you purchase #1 at the station though. Is it safe to burn desiel fuel in an oil furnace? My mom wants to know she is out of oil but she has desiel?
tell mom thats ok thats what fuel oil is
Definitly not. Besides If u do,And live,U probably have 2 pay hundreds to clean Most of the internal parts. JUST DON`T
yes, it is safe...........i have had to do that a few times as a single mother going through a divorce because my exhusband was such a rotten bastard, he tortured us any way he could. i learned how to do that, from neighbor. but youll need to prime it.....and it will heat the house for the night but it goes fast~~~~~~~JUST MAKE SURE ITS NOT GASOLINE!~~~~~~~try not to run out cause its no good for the oil burner, then the oil guy gets all pissed off too! hahaha
    absolutely not safe
Only if you want your house to catch fire and blow up.
Lets make this real simple, bottom line is, home heating oil is about the same as No.#2 Diesel fuel. The fuel oil you buy at the pump is refined more. Actually, the fuel oil you buy at the pump would be better to burn in your furnace because of it being refined more it's much cleaner. It won't hurt a thing to use pump Diesel fuel in your fuel oil furnace...Don't take my word for it, check with your local supplier ask them. Good luck...
No absolutely not. The fumes are dangerous and could possibly blow your home up.
Off road diesel and fuel oil IS the same thing. It has red dye in it. Road diesel has a lower sulphur content and is clear to light green in color.

Does a 2001 corvette burn oil?

I am looking to buy a 2001 Corvette but I have looked at some that say ';this one does not burn oil like most 2001 vettes'; So am I safe to assume that all 01's burn oil? Is it just this specific year? Thanks!Does a 2001 corvette burn oil?
    all cars burn some..

i have never heard anything about any newer Chevrolet having a problem...

1 quart in a high performance motor in 2000 miles is nothing..

just haters trying to make something of nothingDoes a 2001 corvette burn oil?
if its a problem for that year then why are you even thinking about buying 1
All motors burn a small amount of oil. What you should be looking at is if the car is blowing blue smoke out the tail pipes. They should not burn an amount of oil that is noticeable out the tail pipe. It is fairly normal to burn about a liter of oil in between oil changes, but anymore and I would say there is something going wrong in the motor or it's worn out.
most high performance motors use some oil, but that's a good thing as i dry motor leads to a broken motor, there are a few this that can help limit this, the use of high grade oils, making sure the PVC valve and hose is in good shape and working, and then there one more thing that will help but it cost and i have done this just a few months ago on a friends vette, we rebuilt the motor and used (TOTAL SEAL) gapless rings, they give you better oil control and better compression, with 0.01 bleed down compared to 0.10 to 0.20 bleed down of regular rings
yes, but only the Z06 and we are only talking about 1 quart per 2000 miles, I read it in Newsday
Hmmm... I have 04 with AT but she doesn't burn oil at all. Maybe you should log on to http://forums.corvetteforum.com for more information on this. Forum members on above site are very helpful and super nice!!!
yes but than again all cars burn oil..
    Nope. They just burn ricers!
No its not normal for a corvette to burn oil like tis. I mean yeah all cars burn some oil but they're not usually classified as an oil burner.
yes i have had to put 5 quarts in a week

The earth's core is molten iron-nickel, very hot, and yet we burn oil to make heat - does this make sense?

This heat can be tapped by drilling, and injecting water which comes back as steam.

    Doesn't this make sense?

Should we be more careful about using oil, a limited resource? The earth's core is molten iron-nickel, very hot, and yet we burn oil to make heat - does this make sense?
Geothermal heat would help a lot. First we should be certain that our homes are well insulated. If everyone was to install a ground water heat pump, it would lower heating bills (and fuel consumption) and make it cheap to cool in the summer. Heating and cooling are two of our biggest energy demands. What you are suggesting makes a ton of sense. The earth's core is molten iron-nickel, very hot, and yet we burn oil to make heat - does this make sense?
It would be an almost impossible task to do this. The dpeth at which we would have to drill, the costs, the lack of technology to actually get to that layer of the planet.

We are going to be stuck on oil until we run out or someone figures out a new type of fusion. Cold fusion anyone?
Oil is nice because it can be transported very easily. Even if it's possible to tap geothermic heat, it's troublesome to transport it any significant distance.
What kind of energy source are you gonna use to drill all the way to the core. And what would the drill be made of (so it wouldn't melt.) I think the Earth has been ravaged enough without any more idiotic ideas like this one.
Getting heat is not a problem. There are many installations of geothermal energy. However, that can't be readily done everywhere. Access to heated steam or magma is not readily available everywhere it's needed.

BUT, you can't run cars from geothermal energy directly.
Good idea! There's only one problem. All the hot spots I know about are too pretty to build a power plant over. What do we want? Power or the beauty of nature?

Hawaii, Iceland, Old Faithful, The hot spots under the sea. The pacific rim. I thinks that's what they call the string of volcanoes going around the earth. There's probably a hot spot someplace we can use. How about in outer space? I remember seeing a movie on tv. They said you could fry if you were not protected from the sun. Its probably not true. Oh well.
not to me i dont know about yall but the earth is confusing

When oil burns in the power station, chemical Energy is converted to heat Energy and in turn to electrical ene

when oil burns in the power station, chemical energy is converted to heat energy and in turn to electrical energy. the amount of electrical energy obtained is always much less than the heat energy. explain what happens to the rest of the energy? When oil burns in the power station, chemical Energy is converted to heat Energy and in turn to electrical ene
The heat of combustion is not all captured. Some of it escapes just as heat, up the chimney.

Also in the conversion to electricity there are losses, like the friction in the bearings in the generators. Plus there are losses in transmission due to the resistance in the wires themselves. When oil burns in the power station, chemical Energy is converted to heat Energy and in turn to electrical ene
we have to accept that the efficiency of energy conversion until now had not been perfected yet, the reason why we get lesser energy from the source. technology has this ultimate objective to achieve - a 100% efficient energy converter... meanwhile the energy not converted for its intended use is just lost in the atmosphere as heat, unburned fuel in the form of smoke and other by-product emissions due to energy conversion. since these losses are uncontrolled and unconfined, it becomes a blanket in the atmosphere that traps the heat from the sun on our earth that causes the so called greenhouse effect and in the end...GLOBAL WARMING! POLAR CAPS MELTING, ISLANDS SINKING,...OMG, WHO KNOWS WHAT'S NEXT!...Sorry you got more than you asked for...just want to help protect our mother earth

  • Neutrogena oil free acne wash has given me some sort of burn, help please?

I've been using Neutrogena oil free acne wash as the bottle indicates (twice a day) for around the last 4 days. I have gotten some sort of chemical burn from it and my face is red, swollen, raw, flakey and dry. It burns a lot, too.

I've tried the Pure Simplicity pumpkin mask from Bath and Body Works and a homemade avocado mask thus far.

Any ideas how to get this constant burning to stop?

Thanks for your help!Neutrogena oil free acne wash has given me some sort of burn, help please?
my sister used to have less acne than i did - i used product and she just used ivory soap. then she got ONE breakout and she had a spaz and started using this wash, and i did what she did - except i used cetaphil cleanser instead of soap. now i have less acne than she does and she has prolonged red marks (my red marks fade quicker than hers, she has scars from pimples she had a while ago because of this cleanser) so overall i dont recommend it. i just saw the product and thought i'd give a heads up, sorry if i don't help answer the questionNeutrogena oil free acne wash has given me some sort of burn, help please?
It did the same thing to my face, It was around my mouth and chin that it occured on though, It wasnt all over my face. I stopped using it rite away! And constantly put lotion on it! Hope this Helps! :)
I'm using this too, actually. The burning you feel is probably due to the salicyc acid which is drying out your skin. What I did was switch to using it once a day (preferably in the evening) and using a mositurizer after. In the morning, wash your face with a gentle cream cleanser--your best bet would be the vitamin E cleanser from The Body Shop or something like it.

    Good luck!

How do i prevent severe scaring from hot oil burns?

After cooking chiko rolls for my brother in the deep fryer, i lifted the basket out and set it on the hook. In doing so, i missed the hook and the basket splashed back into the hot oil @ 200*Celsius. The hot oil splashed up my left hand in blotches and up my wrist to parts of my forearm also. I also experienced small amounts to my upper chest. The most severe burns are to my arm and hand. I automatically placed my entire arm under cool running water for quite some time before applying an ice-pack wrapped in a tea-towel to the area. I had to apply this for a numerous amount of hours. I haven't been to see the doctor as of yet. I have noticed purple-red colouration to one of the burns. I also know for a fact that the burns i have experienced will infact scar. I was wondering if there were any ways of preventing the scaring to my skin. Your help would be much appreciated. It looks as though someone has taked a paintbrush full of paint and thrown dobs and splotches of paint on my arm.How do i prevent severe scaring from hot oil burns?
Vitamin E cream. How do i prevent severe scaring from hot oil burns?
Viatim E, rub it on the scar.
The jobst institute has many solutions to burn problems medically. There are some things you should be aware of that may help. Vitamin E decrease the need for oxygen in the tissue and has been shown to keep burned tissue from scaring because scare tissue forms due to reduced oxygen getting to the tissue. Vitamin E capsules can be opened and the vitamin E put directly onto the tissue and taken internally to help this problem. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that has been used on burn victims for years now.

Hot oil can be much hotter than boiling water and cause very bad burns. The vitamin E will help greatly. It will help keep the skin flexible as well.

Scaring occurs because of this oxygen issue. Keep the vitamin E on and it will greatly reduce or even eliminate the scar tissue from forming.
i was once recommended vitamin E oil - instead of cream, i had a massive scar, and now its pretty much gone, you will need to apply it twice a day if i remember correctly - it is available at the pharmacy and a pharmacist can advise you whenabouts in the healing process it is safe to begin use and how often to apply.
Use cocoa butter and Vitamin E
I got burned by a hot iron once on my leg, it took skin off. I used liquid vitamin E. You'll find it at any store like wal-mart, it in the lotion section. Don't bandage the burns, keep them clean and dry. Apply the vitamin E as many times as you can. (3-4 times a day) I only have a tiny little speck left when it was 2in long. Good Luck
Blondie; i was so sorry to hesr of your accident.

In the good ol' U.S.A. it is easy to buy ';Anti-Freckle Creme';:

it IS your, Answer: believe in it: it takes time, %26amp; constant use.

A cheper, less effective one is: ';Rosken-With Vitamin E';.

I am Scottish [freckled puti. THAT Rosken, worked,

fine for 'blotches' of, quite severe SUN-DAMAGE to my face..

    (All, gone now!)
I had the same thing happen to me, but my whole arm slipped into a fry daddy type thing...

I had a burn, and then it turned into a discoloration for about a year or two and the disappeared on its own.

I have no permanent scar on me at all.

    You will need time....

There are also these plastic type things you can put on scars that are suppose to help the soften. You can find them at drug store and such.
Get vitamin E oil and apply it to your skin daily. It will help it heal cleanly.

Our oil burning furnace did not ignite when we hit the reset button. The oil tank is full. What should we do?

call a repair personOur oil burning furnace did not ignite when we hit the reset button. The oil tank is full. What should we do?
First, don't hit the reset button too many times. You may dump oil into fire box and if it does ignite you could have a surprise. Is there power to burner?

Your trouble could be any one of several possibilities.

Fuel pump- fuel filter- suction leak in fuel line- burner nozzle- electrodes.

There is a petcock type bleeder on pump, put can under it, hit reset, see if oil pumps out solid amber( not milky which would mean air). If nothing pumps out, could be clogged filter. Nozzle needs to be a certain G.P.H. and correct spray angle to boiler specs. Electrodes have to be set approx. 3/16'; apart @ tip and 3/16'; out from end of nozzle. It's pretty technical. Our oil burning furnace did not ignite when we hit the reset button. The oil tank is full. What should we do?
did it light at all like for a few seconds ,if so your have air in the lines and your have to bleed the fuel line,if it did not light at all check the on and off switch on the furnace then check the fuse, if they are all good you probably have a dirty electric eye that needs to be cleaned,or the contacts in your control/reset box are bad. if you are not familiar with furnaces call in a service man to have it cleaned and checked. do not keep hitting the reset button more than 3 times as it may cause an explosion.
you did not say whether or not the burner motor started when you hit the reset button. if it did not start, i would look at the breaker in electric cabinet. if it DID start, i would look at the electric eye or note if fuel was being delivered to the nozzle. if no fuel to the nozzle you could have a clogged nozzle, which is very common or air in the system. i, personally, would pay attention to the nozzle. also, can you do this work yourself? like changing nozzles, adjusting points? if not, then you should call a repairman. i would be cautious working around it if you are not familiar. good luck
If you're a handyman type, I, consult the manufacturer to get help. Otherwise I'd call a service professional. When it comes to furnaces and fuel etc, all you have to do is make one wrong move, if you know what I mean?

I smell oil burning in my car especially it seems when I turn on the heat?

But I also smell it when I am driving and the car is at a stop. There is not a lot of exhaust coming out so I don't think I'm burning a lot of oil and it's hard to tell if there is a leak because I live in a congested neighborhood and there's a lot of stuff on the ground already. What could possibly be wrong?I smell oil burning in my car especially it seems when I turn on the heat?
You're probably burning oil. Possible problems could be valve guide seals, piston rings, a bad headgasket, or just oil leaking out of an external gasket on to the exhaust. My accord burns alot of oil through the valve guide seals and the rocker arm seals but you still can't see any noticeable smoke from the exhaust.I smell oil burning in my car especially it seems when I turn on the heat?
It sounds like you are having oil leaking onto your manifold and when it burns they odors are backing into the car. Your best bet is to take it to wherever you gat your oil changes done and ask them to take a look.
As long as you don't have excess white smoke coming out the engine you might be alright. When that happens you have a busted block which is very bad. Once you fix those things there is a good chance it will break again. I would get it fixed before it becomes a really expensive problem. Have a auto mechanic take a look. They have to call you before they do any work on it but at least you can get someone that knows what they're doing. DON'T let just anybody get under the hood of your car. Would you rather get your hair done at the salon or just get a housecut and take the chance of someone that hasn't been trained screwing up your hairdo. Same principle.
Try parking somewhere where there's not that much on the ground and let it sit for a while. Does it smoke like once you've stopped somewhere...cause if so...then you have a leak..
Most common cause of burning oil smells are leaks in the valve cover gaskets-they tend to allow oil to run down onto the exhaust manifolds and burn off, then is sucked into the car via the climate control air inlet. Because the oil is being burned, it never hits the ground.
the oil could be leaking out a little on the engine and the hot engine heats it up----kinda like Crisco.

Look real good at the engine. raise the hod when it is warmed up and running and see if you notice a little whiff of smoke.
you probably have an oil leak and whats happening is its leaking on the exhaust and the reason you smell it with the heat on is you are pulling in the outside air you should let the veh run in park and at an idle and open the hood and ck for smoke coming from the engine compartment to get an idea of where it is coming from hope this helps good luck
I would agree with just about all of them. So I think they pretty well covered it. There is a oil leak some where and its time to start hunting it before it causes real damage.

I got a small oil burn on my face at my restaurant yesterday ...?

Is there anything that i can do to remove the mark ? since the burn is yet at it's early stage i hope some cream will work ... the skin didn't peel, but got a few shades darker .... please tell me how to take it off completely or reduce the scaring..... what can i do ? will vitamin E work, if applied on the burn area ..... reply asap ...I got a small oil burn on my face at my restaurant yesterday ...?
It will scar for a while, but will fade and disappear - might take a few weeks. Best thing to do is just leave it alone.

It's happened to me before and the mark has gone completely.I got a small oil burn on my face at my restaurant yesterday ...?
As soon as you get burnt you should cool the area down with water. You need to keep cold water on it for a long time not just seconds. As the wound was yesterday I would suggest putting a natural Calendula cream on your face.

Nelson do one see link below.
you can get burn plasters which help to heal better.I had a burn on my boob that was really bad after I used a burn plaster(practically invisible)I have no scarring whatsoever
use vitamin E oil....that should work
Aloe vera and vitamin E oil are best, but you may have a scar for a long time.

Is it better for the environment to burn wood or oil to heat your house ?

Heating oil is a cleaner burning fuel than wood and oil contains more energy so you burn less oil to produce same amount of heat. In addition, you don't have to chop down trees to burn oil.Is it better for the environment to burn wood or oil to heat your house ?
It is better to burn wood instead of oil because it is bad for you to breathe also because you are second hand smoking.

  • What would you recommend to slow down oil burning?

I have a friend with a 1997 Saturn, and although it runs very well and performs reliably, it burns oil like crazy. According to my research, it was manufactured with crappy piston rings and it's a common problem with this model. Aside from tearing down the engine and replacing the rings with better aftermarket rings, are there any tricks for stopping or at least reducing oil burning? Do any additives actually help, or is it all just snake oil? Would a thicker oil help, or just make things worse? What would you recommend to slow down oil burning?
The problem is STICKING piston rings, not WORN piston rings. You can usually free up the rings by removing the spark plugs %26amp; pouring 1/2 a can of SeaFoam in to each cylinder. Allow the SeaFoam a day or 2 to work, then crank the engine by hand with the spark plugs removed to expel any remaining liquid from the cylinders. Change your engine oil and filter, install new spark plugs %26amp; run the engine hard for a day or two. This will drastically reduce oil consumption on about 70% of the Saturn SOHC %26amp; DOHC 4cyl. engines. What would you recommend to slow down oil burning?
You already know the best answer as indicated in your question.

In the meantime, he/she might try using a heavier viscosity oil (straight 30W instead of 5w30, for instance).

As far as additives, I've never found any of them to be particularly effective - regardless of the promises printed on the labels.
Once the engine starts to go , i don't care what people say about additives and oils. it will not help. Get the motor rebuilt or replaced. That's the best thing that will work. Good Luck

P.S. Engine restore does not stop your car from burning oil or smoking. It just covers up scratches on the cylinder walls.
try putting a can of Engine Restore with every oil change.

    Why do cars burn oil?

Usually this is caused by the piston rings allowing oil to get past them and into the combustion chamber, but can also be caused by oil that has been thinned with gasoline and many other things, but Usually, it is the piston rings that causes the burning of motor oilWhy do cars burn oil?
Because you either have worn valve seals, these seal the oil from leaking down into the cylinders, or worn piston rings and oil gets by the rings and you burn the oil. You can change the valve seals, but re-ringing the engine will be a pain in the neck, well taking off the heads and putting in new valve seals will be as well.....
Actually, cars are suppose to burn gasoline. You're probably putting the oil for your oil change into the gas tank.

Assuming you've already drained the old oil out the bottom of the oil pan, you're running your car with no lubrication in it. This is bad for the wear and tear of your car's engine, and expect the pistons to weld themselves to the sides of the cylinder walls soon.

On a more serious note: There are several possibilities.

    1) The piston rings are worn out,

    2) The valve guides are worn,

    3) The valve seals need replacing,

    4) The PCV valve is clogged and needs replacing,

    5) The cylinders are no longer round,

    6) Your car has a carburator that is improperly set up and causing raw gas to get past the rings and diluting the oil viscosity,

    7) Using too low a viscosity for your make of car,

    8) You're driving a Stanley Steamer, and using oil to generate steam (sorry, couldn't resist).

Your question leaves a lot of information out of the mix. Things like how many miles are on the engine, the made and model, is there blue smoke out the exhaust pipe, and if so, is it all the time, or only on start-up?
Car burn oil because it has oil leak internally to the inside of the combustion chamber. It could be a gasket or any kind of seals.
Usually bad rings or valve seals

Why does my oil-burning furnace kick in every 5 minutes?

I moved the thermostat last week, and ever since then my furnace kicks in constantly. Did I do something wrong? Why does my oil-burning furnace kick in every 5 minutes?
maybe where you moved it to don't get the heat that the rest of the house gets-unless your rich i would move it back-the price of oil is insaneWhy does my oil-burning furnace kick in every 5 minutes?
Without knowing at all the type of thermostat, Mercury filled balance tube, Digital, etc. I suspect that's where the problem is. It seems logical that you've distrupted it's balance or calibration.

    Just my 2 cents
It is probably an old mechanical unit that must be perfectly level. You can replace it with a digital programmable unit and save 10-15% on your heating bill. It is an easy diy project and not very expensive. For more info including a replacement guide, check out the thermostat page at my source.
If you moved it to a location where there is a draft from outside air the premature cooling of the air around the thermostat may be causing the unit to cycle on and off more frequently.
Perhaps the thermostat is dirty or the contacts are stuck. you could take off the cover and see if the thing is dusty. Did you see the temp to high, you would probably need to turn the water temp up. There is a hi/low limiter in the aqua stat. If the unit has not been serviced in a while, I would have that done to.

Why is my scented oil burning?

I purchased some scented oil and an oil heater from Bath %26amp; Body Works, but every time I've tried to use it the oil begins to smoke and smells different from the oil in the bottle. Does anyone know what I can do?Why is my scented oil burning?

I have new oil burning boiler with baseboard heat. my daughters room is always 10 degrees colder?

in the winter than all the other rooms? I've felt the baseboards in there when the heat clicks on and they get hot?? The room is just always colder? I never block the baseboards and the windows are alwyas closed tightly?I have new oil burning boiler with baseboard heat. my daughters room is always 10 degrees colder?
Check the piping down the cellar. Hers may be last on the line. You can call your oil dealer and they can adjust them. Good luck.I have new oil burning boiler with baseboard heat. my daughters room is always 10 degrees colder?
    Add additional baseboard is needed
It's possible that the lines to her room are teed off a branch line to another room with exactly the same size pipe. Water will always travel the path of least resistance, so her room, although the water is hot, may not be getting the SAME amount of water as the rest of the rads on that circuit.

Another issue is which way does her outer wall face? Is there sufficient insulation inthe wall space? A north or northwest facing wall is usually colder than the other walls, because the predominant cold wind blows from that direction. Are the windows in her room thermo pane? You can get a window sealing kit from Home Depot or other building supply stores. the plastic sheet is fastened around the window, and you use a heat gun or really good hair dryer to shrink the plastic. this offers another layer of protection from cold air blowing in through the glass. Put a foam shield inside her wall sockets, just under the cover. These will help cut down drafts coming in through the wall sockets.

I think, though, that there is a pipe size issue with the supply and return lines for her baseboard radiation.

Why did sparks come off my oil burned when I was trying to bleed it?

I had loosened the bleed screw, turned on the burner and pressed the restart button. The burner came on and then sparks can off the top of it.I did'nt get any oil out - it was only on for 20 seconds maybe so probably not enough time or maybe it was'nt loose enough. Why did sparks come off my oil burned when I was trying to bleed it?

What's the BEST method for cleaning SEVERELY oil burnt and stain layered stoves?

ok. so we do some crazy cookin and our stove looks like a WWII battlefield. Now, we've tried:

Water, liquid detergent soap, comet, ajax, bleach, oxyclean, 409, EZ oven clean, everything the commercials have recommended. We've tried so many of it. NOTHING works!

So, what have y'all found that works? Anything will help!!!

Thanks in advance. What's the BEST method for cleaning SEVERELY oil burnt and stain layered stoves?
If SOS pads or WD40 does not work try Simply Green. When I worked in a shop we used that to clean oil spills in the bays. Another think, try to clean it when it is warm.

If all else fails get out the paint thinner or mineral spirits. What's the BEST method for cleaning SEVERELY oil burnt and stain layered stoves?
Have you tried WD40? It works great on this type of problem...
How about a degreaser and SOS pad. It must really be burnt on if oven cleaner didn't clean it.
hello, my name is carol depending on the kind of cooker you have, if you have a none painted cooker, ie stainless steel you can get stubborn marks off with a gentle brillo-pad, i allways use them, and the ciff oven cleaner works a treat (yellow) i allways this on my stainless steel inside combination oven, and as long as you allways clean it thoroughly afterwards its a must for anyone that likes life easy, but you must allways put a mug of cold water in on the microwave setting for a few mins, thats what i do to make sure there is no remaining cleaner in the vents you know the holes in the oven, but please dont consider using it in a painted, white inside of the oven or microwave. hope this helps.
Brush on liquid dishwasher detergent and let it sit overnight.

Can my friend burn heating oil in car instead of derv i say no wiil it harm engine?

You mean diesel. DERV = diesel engined road vehicle.

Heating oil is just diesel with some colour and less tax.

Read the middle section of this page. I won't bother pasting:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heating_oil

Also the last section of this page:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel

Bottom line, he can (and people often do) run his car on red diesel aka heating oil just fine. He better not get caught though...

Edit: Farmers run their agricultural vehicles on red diesel - they are allowed to. They buy it in bulk and run their heating, tractors, combine harversters etc. They often run their cars and 4x4s on it too, naughty devils! Can my friend burn heating oil in car instead of derv i say no wiil it harm engine?
    NO

    You're right.

It will harm the engineCan my friend burn heating oil in car instead of derv i say no wiil it harm engine?
The Police sometimes have roadside checks to see if people are using red diesel - the dye is added to prevent people from putting it into their cars and thus avoiding tax.
Heating oil is generally a lower quality than diesel fuel, since it is intended to be burnt for heat and not in a more demanding application like a diesel engine.

So you can, and heating oil and diesel are very much alike, but you would taking a chance to do so.

It would also void the warranty in new diesel powered cars.
of course you will block fuel system totally for a start and damage the engine.dont bother
Not with out doing work to the heating oil first. The heating oil will be dirty, the viscosity will be to high and it will freeze when cold.
yes you can do it without harming the engine but don't get caught it is illegal because you are avoiding the extra tax that is put on diesel.
no. heating oil used in homes is not processed specifically for vehicle engines. when they burn ,they leave sediments that may harm the entire engine block
You can certainly run older diesel cars with less complex engines on heating oil. I wouldn't want to try a modern car though, too much to go wrong. Modern engines are carefully tuned to get the maximum power for the fuel being used - ie. diesel.

TallPaul - red diesel is not heating oil. It's diesel, sometimes lower grade, to which a red dye has been added as it is sold at a lower tax rate for eg. agricultural use.

I'm fairly sure you will be prosecuted if you are caught using heating oil or red diesel in your car - all because of the lower tax rates on these fuels.
As some people who know what they are talking about have already mentioned - yes he can run red diesel (heating oil) in his car and many do. It is illegal however as it is a customs and excise offence due to the differing tax levels as previoulsy mentioned as well.

It is for the reason that people can run vehicles on red diesel that the authorities will do swoop examinations on people like taxi fleet operators, goods vehicles and so on to ensure that they are not doing just that.

I do beilieve however that people who do run it will also mix it with some regular diesel to get some of the additives that is in one and not the other.

Finch below - heating oil and red diesel are the same thing.

Does baby oil burn your vaginia?

my bf and i want to try something new to help the penis go in more easily. thank u NO RUDE COMMENTS PLEASE!Does baby oil burn your vaginia?
Oil-based lubes are not compatible with latex condoms. Baby oil, which contains minerals, can offer a burning sensation to soft mucus tissues, like the vagina and the penis, and make those tissues sore and very sensitive. So it's not a good lubricant to consider unless you have no sensation in those areas or you're into a little kinky minky.

If you want something that's very slick for easier penetration, try Astroglide or KY Silk liquid lubricant. Moderately priced at about $6 a bottle, a little goes a long way, it's also edible, odorless, won't harm your tissues, or stain your sheets, it's water-based which means easy clean up after, and compatible with all condoms.Does baby oil burn your vaginia?
No but it can damage the condom. Just have more foreplay and relax and enjoy
you may find yourself getting more than often uti's if you are using baby oil, it is not a good thing to use, its for external use only. I would just get a generic brand of ky, this would be much safer method.

Ok, i have an oil burning furnace and just curious what type of things i should get for it??? Like, do I need an oil filter for it should i get a carbon manoxide detector???

Any information you can give is appreciated.Question about an oil burning furnace?
Hi, here is a site I found to be quite informative on furnaces and heating, it may help you as well, good luck.

http://www.furnace-water-heaters.com/Question about an oil burning furnace?
oil burning furnaces are great!!! wish i had one,a in-line filter long as you never let it run out you should be ok without one, depending on where the furnace is, you really shoulnt need a carbine monoxide detector, although it wouldnt hurt, never does, but the furnace should have safety swithces on it to prvent any harm from your family.
You should have a furnace technician come clean it once per year, they change the filter that comes in from the tank and clean out all of the old ash and inspect it. A carbon monoxide detector is never a bad idea, particularly if your furnace is old. Make sure to always check your fuel oil level and don't let it get too low because if it runs out then you will likely have a costly bill for somebody to prime and start it.

Does an oil furnace burn carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide?

Neither, but it PRODUCES carbon monoxide. Any fuel burning system has the potential to produce different levels of carbon monoxide. It is a good idea to have a qualified technician inspect the oil furnace since they need more attention than any other fuel burning appliance. It is also a great idea to purchase a carbon monoxide detector and install one within 15' from any bedroom or if you have a multi level home purchase one for every level. Illinois has a new law that requires one in every home even if it is all electric but with an attached garage. I hope I answered your question.Does an oil furnace burn carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide?
They have both. Carbon monoxide will kill you. YOU NEED TO GET YOUR BOILER CLEANED or you might not wake up tomorrow.Does an oil furnace burn carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide?
It burns oil and oxygen from the air. It produces both carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide which are present in the exhaust. Carbon monoxide can be lethal and carbon dioxide is a pollutant considered a greenhouse gas which many believe is a main contributor to global warming.
an oil furnace burns oil...but produces carbon monoxide.
    Neither, it burns oil.
It burns Oxygen (and oil), it produces Carbon somethingoxide - mono I think
Carbon monoxide is produced when the fuel doesn't have enough oxygen, it will also produce soot, a properly maintained furnace by a qualified person will reduce the risk of the happening.
Several answers are close, but none are 100%. Oil, gas, gasoline, coal, wood, pellets, etc. all burn oxygen and produce carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide as by products. They also produce water and other substances as byproducts.

Most of them get their oxygen from inside the building they are in. This reduces the oxygen in the building and can replaces SOME of it with the carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. High efficiency gas furnaces have a vent from the outside to draw in outside air to burn, for this very reason.

A device that is not adjusted right can produce more carbon monoxide than one that is adjusted properly. That is why it is important to have it inspected periodically and to have a carbon monoxide detector.

Even worse is one that is broken, for example a rusted out heat exchanger. That allows much, much more of the burned gasses into the room(s).

Also, some heaters, by their design, use a lot of oxygen in the room and expell a lot of the bad gasses back into the room. An example is the portable heaters sometimes used in construction. Also the once popular kerosene auxillery heaters.

They have fallen out of grace mostly because of this fact.

P.S. RJS had a very good answer, but it was not there when I wrote mine.
    An oil furnace burns oil.

Does my bad catalytic converter burn oil?

99 Jetta. Just got the oil changed. already low. does my bad catalytic converter burn oil? Also, I live in Baltimore, Maryland. How much is a good price to get my catalytic converter replaced (parts %26amp; labor)?Does my bad catalytic converter burn oil?
Mad Jack is exactly correct. The converter has no effect on the condition of the engine but oil passing through the exhaust will destroy a very expensive converter quickly. These things are not at all cheap, like about a grand for most of them. Fix your engine first.Does my bad catalytic converter burn oil?
It is the other way around. The oil consumption of the engine made your catalytic converter go bad.

Your engine more than likely is the problem. Oil consumption usually comes from one or more areas in your engine.

You may have worn piston rings

You may have worn valve seals

    You may have both problems.

The excessive engine oil consumption was more than the catalytic converter could handle. Now the catalytic converter is fouled. It will eventually get plugged. When this happens there will be a noticeable drop in power. If you replace the catalytic converter it will quickly become fouled again from the oil coming from the engine.

Either way the only permanent fix is an engine overhaul. But it is up to you if you want to spend a few thousand dollars on a 10 year old car. The cost of an overhaul or replacement engine could easily exceed the value of this car.
    Hi

No a catalytic converter well or does not burn oil.. If you took you car to one of the oil/lube places .. they are know for not putting in enough oil and in some cases not putting oil back in at all.. I would add oil then see if it goes down again.. watch under your car for leaks from a lose oil filter or a lose drain nut.

I dough that the converter is bad.. I would have a second opinion from a muffler shop first.. they are not cheap the converter its self can cause anywhere up to $300.oo + labor.. I don't know for your application.

    good luck

    yes
I would not recommend it and I don't believe you doctor would advise you to go out in the sun if you were burned. Not only would the sun do further damage but it may be painful as well. Of course it all depends on the degree of the burn.
As long as you don't stay in the sun too long. You should also take care of that burn to make sure that it doesn't get worse.

NO the pulley is just what drives the pump and a place for the belt. It only goes bad if it gets bent or broken. All fluid well be that way after years of service. You can change the fluid if you like.

If the pulley is loose you will hear a screeching noise when you turn the steering wheel. You can get the belt tightened or get a new belt. If that doesn't solve the problem you may need a new pump.

What are the types of Burn out in oil and gas companies?

If you are referring to the concept of one losing incentive as a blue collar worker,

For the blue collar worker in general, there is tedium and an inability to express one's self in a creative manner. That causes burn out in many people.

To be satisfied with a job, we need to feel that we have some independence in the application of solutions to the problem at hand. The oil and gas company labor force is usually not afforded that opportunity.

In addition, the physical danger and social isolation involved with these particular industries does not usually offset the extra payments one receives for enduring those hardships.

Can tea tree oil cause a chemical burn?

I'm having a pretty bad reaction to it. My skin is red and some spots look waxy white and it does feel rough. I've been putting polysporin on it for the past 2 days but it's getting worse. Its about 3 inchs long and a inch wide. By description it sounds like a burn. I'm really not sure if the oil can really give a burn like this though? Would this also fit a severe contact dermatitis reaction? It was pure essential oil that I spilled and wiped off myself with tissue.

Thanks :-)Can tea tree oil cause a chemical burn?
When not diluted, tea tree oil is extremely harsh to skin. It's possible you caused a great deal of irritation and possibly triggered an allergic reaction. It sounds sort of like a patch of eczema, or pretty much contact dermatitis in this case (as you guessed!). Instead of using polysporin, pick up some hydrocortizone and some sort of topical antihistamine. If it doesn't get better after trying those two things, I would see a doctor. Good luck. Can tea tree oil cause a chemical burn?
Oh gosh I once used tea tree oil and had the same type of reaction. I went to the doctor and he didn't really tell me much other than tea tree oil always need to be diluted...and that I was allergic to it :/

When oil is burnt it forms soot, each particle of which is a group of carbon atoms with some other chemicals mixed in.

the only vehicle i ever had to burn oil, had 130,000 on it and it burnt 1/2 quart every 3000 miles. it pulled big trailers, but was serviced well. however my friend bought one, that burnt oil from the start. he would drive it to the dealer once a week, have them check it, and document it. he keep complaining, so after six months with the proof of the vehicle burning oil from the dealership, they put in a new motor. after doing some other gasket and pcv valve work and such to try to make it stop.HI Should a new car burn oil. I have had five or six new cars in my life and none burned oil.?
    Burn oil?

No...oil shouldnt just burn away.HI Should a new car burn oil. I have had five or six new cars in my life and none burned oil.?
You neglect to tell us the brand of car. As a rule, new cars should not burn oil. In fact most cars these days do not burn oil until they get about 45-50,000 miles on them. See your dealer!
Not uncommon during the break in of the piston rings to the cylinder walls (up to 1000 miles) that it can happen. Almost all cars today will not burn any even from the start. So yes it could, but after 1,000 miles if it still is then have the dealer check it out for your car at that point has a problem.
No... Sounds like it isn't a new car. Or they screwed up putting the head gasket on.
With today's engine tolerances automotive engines should not use any motor oil between manufactures changes.

In the real world manufactures do have a silent wiggle period that owners aren't aware of to CTA (cover their as*s) should they build a lemon.

Cadillac in 05 tried to convince my father that 1 quart in 1,200 miles was acceptable. It had 14,000 miles on it. They poured some mystery juice in the crankcase to free-up the piston rings which didn't work. Finally they dis-assembled the motor cleaned the pistons and added new piston rings. Wow what a difference 1 quart in 2,500 miles. What a piece of crap that car was.
a qt every 3000 miles is acceptable
i think but not a 100% it sounds like the piston rings may be starting to go bad. If it is new it should be under warrenty.
are you seeing blue smoke in your exhaust? are you having to replace the oil often? how new is it?

if you have the indicative blue smoke from burning oil, it is leaking inside the engine somewhere ... this is not a good sign ... it is a better question for the dealer and hopefully it is still under warranty ...
unless your putting oil in the gas tank no it should not
    I don't believe it should

Did we get a citrus oil burn in the bath?

My s.o. and I were taking a nice bath and I added some citrus oil, just a few drops to our large jacuzzi-sized tub. After about 20 minutes of being in the water, the areas of our legs that were touching started to burn and tingle. Now it is really painful. It feels like a terrible sun burn. I've read about diluting essential oils- and they certainly were right? But why such a bad reaction and why only the area we were touching. Does it have anything to do with the body heat or our bodies keeping the oil against our skin? Also I know that some people just react to essential oils, but both of us? We also added some bath salt- maybe they reacted? Any ideas?Did we get a citrus oil burn in the bath?
I think you would have been OK if you hadn't touched and it had dissipated in the water but obviously some of the concentrated oil was 'trapped' between you causing this reaction. These oils can be highly potent and as you already know shouldn't be applied directly to the skin.Did we get a citrus oil burn in the bath?
Maybe ur body oils+hot water+citrus oil+ salt= chemical reaction/burn. those sound like some pretty strong ingredients. Try some aloe on it.

How do i treat a oil burn which now swellen?

Cool water, not cold. Ibuprofen for the swelling. Once it stops hurting you can apply antiseptic cream and a clean dressing.
