Did we get a citrus oil burn in the bath?

My s.o. and I were taking a nice bath and I added some citrus oil, just a few drops to our large jacuzzi-sized tub. After about 20 minutes of being in the water, the areas of our legs that were touching started to burn and tingle. Now it is really painful. It feels like a terrible sun burn. I've read about diluting essential oils- and they certainly were right? But why such a bad reaction and why only the area we were touching. Does it have anything to do with the body heat or our bodies keeping the oil against our skin? Also I know that some people just react to essential oils, but both of us? We also added some bath salt- maybe they reacted? Any ideas?Did we get a citrus oil burn in the bath?
I think you would have been OK if you hadn't touched and it had dissipated in the water but obviously some of the concentrated oil was 'trapped' between you causing this reaction. These oils can be highly potent and as you already know shouldn't be applied directly to the skin.Did we get a citrus oil burn in the bath?
Maybe ur body oils+hot water+citrus oil+ salt= chemical reaction/burn. those sound like some pretty strong ingredients. Try some aloe on it.
