HI Should a new car burn oil. I have had five or six new cars in my life and none burned oil.?

the only vehicle i ever had to burn oil, had 130,000 on it and it burnt 1/2 quart every 3000 miles. it pulled big trailers, but was serviced well. however my friend bought one, that burnt oil from the start. he would drive it to the dealer once a week, have them check it, and document it. he keep complaining, so after six months with the proof of the vehicle burning oil from the dealership, they put in a new motor. after doing some other gasket and pcv valve work and such to try to make it stop.HI Should a new car burn oil. Burn oil?

No...oil shouldnt just burn away.HI Should a new car burn oil. I have had five or six new cars in my life and none burned oil.?
You neglect to tell us the brand of car. As a rule, new cars should not burn oil. In fact most cars these days do not burn oil until they get about 45-50,000 miles on them. See your dealer!
Not uncommon during the break in of the piston rings to the cylinder walls (up to 1000 miles) that it can happen. Almost all cars today will not burn any even from the start. So yes it could, but after 1,000 miles if it still is then have the dealer check it out for your car at that point has a problem.
No... Sounds like it isn't a new car. Or they screwed up putting the head gasket on.
With today's engine tolerances automotive engines should not use any motor oil between manufactures changes.

In the real world manufactures do have a silent wiggle period that owners aren't aware of to CTA (cover their as*s) should they build a lemon.

Cadillac in 05 tried to convince my father that 1 quart in 1,200 miles was acceptable. It had 14,000 miles on it. They poured some mystery juice in the crankcase to free-up the piston rings which didn't work. Finally they dis-assembled the motor cleaned the pistons and added new piston rings. Wow what a difference 1 quart in 2,500 miles. What a piece of crap that car was.
a qt every 3000 miles is acceptable
i think but not a 100% it sounds like the piston rings may be starting to go bad. If it is new it should be under warrenty.
are you seeing blue smoke in your exhaust? are you having to replace the oil often? how new is it?

if you have the indicative blue smoke from burning oil, it is leaking inside the engine somewhere ... this is not a good sign ... it is a better question for the dealer and hopefully it is still under warranty ...
unless your putting oil in the gas tank no it should not
I don't believe it should
