Is it safe to burn desiel fuel in an oil furnace? My mom wants to know she is out of oil but she has desiel?

Home heating oil and #2 Diesel are about the same. I used to work blending fuels at an oil refinery. #2 Diesel has a cetane specification on it, and Home Heating Oil does not, so #2 Diesel is actually a more valued grade of fuel than Home Heating Oil.

#1 diesel should not hurt your furnace but it will be more expensive. It's lubricating properties are lower than a #2. Unless your pump bearings are lubricated by the oil this should not be a concern.

#1 diesel is also more expensive than #2 diesel, and is lighter and less dense, so therefore does not have the energy that #2 diesel has. You will use more for the same heat amount.

#1 diesel, K-1, and jet fuel for commercial aircraft are pretty similar materials but K-1 has more stringent specifications because of it's use in oil heaters and oil lamps so. (Not oil furnaces) This more stringent spec assures that it will burn cleaner in those indoor services without forming as much Carbon Monoxide.

#1 %26amp; #2 ';Fuel Oils'; are not flammable materials like gasoline, acetone, ethanol etc. They are termed combustible materials. Usually you can hold a match to them and not light them on fire. You need to wick them to get them to burn.

As a result they are reasonable safe fuels if stored at room temperature. If you heat them above their ';flash points,'; which will be above 100'F and varies from batch to batch, refiner to refiner, then you can ignite them with a match. Is it safe to burn desiel fuel in an oil furnace? It is safe. #1 diesel fuel is the same as home heating oil. Make sure you purchase #1 at the station though. Is it safe to burn desiel fuel in an oil furnace? My mom wants to know she is out of oil but she has desiel?
tell mom thats ok thats what fuel oil is
Definitly not. Besides If u do,And live,U probably have 2 pay hundreds to clean Most of the internal parts. JUST DON`T
yes, it is safe...........i have had to do that a few times as a single mother going through a divorce because my exhusband was such a rotten bastard, he tortured us any way he could. i learned how to do that, from neighbor. but youll need to prime it.....and it will heat the house for the night but it goes fast~~~~~~~JUST MAKE SURE ITS NOT GASOLINE!~~~~~~~try not to run out cause its no good for the oil burner, then the oil guy gets all pissed off too! hahaha
absolutely not safe
Only if you want your house to catch fire and blow up.
Lets make this real simple, bottom line is, home heating oil is about the same as No.#2 Diesel fuel. The fuel oil you buy at the pump is refined more. Actually, the fuel oil you buy at the pump would be better to burn in your furnace because of it being refined more it's much cleaner. It won't hurt a thing to use pump Diesel fuel in your fuel oil furnace...Don't take my word for it, check with your local supplier ask them. Good luck...
No absolutely not. The fumes are dangerous and could possibly blow your home up.
Off road diesel and fuel oil IS the same thing. It has red dye in it. Road diesel has a lower sulphur content and is clear to light green in color.
