just today i burned myself with oil while cooking. a few hours after, it turned red but it hasnt blistered yet. though someone else told me she did the same thing and got a huge scar. so now im just wondering if the redness is going to scar like hers or maybe hers was a bigger burn and thats why it scarred. if its just red it won't scar, right? How can i tell if my oil burn is going to scar?
It depends on the severity of the burn. If it's just red, no blisters, it's only a 1st degree and shouldn't scar badly, if at all. Also, scarring depends on the location of the wound and your age (younger people scar easier and worse because their skin overcompensates for the healing). As it heals, if it feels thickened or raised it will probably scar. Also, watch the edges as they tend to heal first-- if the edges form scar tissue, the rest of the burn will.
